2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2023 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 – EVERYTHING YOU NEED
Trucks are what the full-size Chevy Silverado 1500 knows how to do Monday through Sunday. A 310-hp turbo four, two V-8s, and a Duramax turbo diesel with 495 lb-ft of torque round out the Silverado’s wide range of powertrain offerings. While the 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V-8, crisp steering, and excellent brake pedal feel allow for brief bouts of Corvette cosplay, the Chevrolet Silverado is sometimes the rough ride is enough to rob you of that dream quickly. The huge screen of the infotainment system compensates for the conservative interior design with high-quality materials. However, such equipment is available only in some configurations. The Silverado’s maximum cargo capacity of 13,300 lb is ahead of its sibling GMC Sierra 1500 and Ram 1500 pickups.
While most of the hardware remains the same for the 2023 model, Chevy increases the power and torque of its Duramax diesel powertrain. Available on the Custom Trail Boss, LT, LT, RST, Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country, the updated 3.0-liter Duramax turbocharged inline-six gains 28 horsepower and 35 lb-ft of torque for an enhanced output of 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft-feet of torque. Chevrolet says a returned turbo, new pistons with a revised combustion chamber, and new fuel injectors have helped give the new diesel more muscle.

2023 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 STYLING & INTERIOR FEATURES
From the pared-down Work Truck model to the luxurious High Country, the Silverado can be configured in various ways. Base models offer only the essentials, including manual locks and windows, manually adjustable front seats, and vinyl seats. However, starting with the LT trim, the cabin is much fancier thanks to a prettier dashboard design, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a huge touchscreen in the center. The High Country interior looks lovely with leather upholstery and open-pore wood trim. Although the crew cab has a substantial rear seat with plenty of headroom, we found the back cushions uncomfortable. Still, it’s a practical tipper, with clever storage bins dotted throughout the cab. While Chevy doesn’t have the carbon-fiber-reinforced cargo body offered on the half-ton Sierra, it’s now available with a similar multi-function tailgate dubbed the Multi-Flex. In addition, several different Chevy bed lengths are sure to please traditionalists.
Every Silverado 1500 is outfitted with a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Mobile Hotspot. The buttons and physical knobs make interacting with the system painless, and we appreciated the prompt responses of the screen to our touch inputs. The LT and above features a horizontal 13.4-inch touchscreen with advanced features such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google Voice Assistant, and available Amazon Alexa integration.
2023 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 SPECS
A range of engines—including two V-8s, a turbocharged four-cylinder, and a 3.0-liter Duramax six-cylinder diesel engine—means the Silverado 1500 is suitable for any job or adventure. Of the two eight-cylinder engines, the 6.2-liter with 420 hp and 460 pound-feet of torque is the fastest, sending the Silverado High Country tested to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds. For comparison, the smaller 355-horsepower 5.3-liter required 6.1 seconds. The 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine boasts 420 lb-ft of torque. We are impressed with the engine’s smooth and quiet operation, and the 305-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter Duramax inline-six now has 495 lb-ft of torque. Every version of the Silverado we’ve driven has been smaller than its size might suggest. The truck’s handling is surprisingly agile, and the brake pedal provides reassuring and firm feedback. Those searching for a more rugged half-ton Chevrolet Silverado will appreciate the Trail Boss model. It has a 2.0-inch lift, knobby tires, and other upgrades that make taking the road less traveled easier and more fun.
