That started the ball rolling. John got his first job at age 12, mowing grass. At age 14, he worked at a local gas station until the day that he got his driver's license. John changed to his first dealership job the very day he got his driver's license. He worked his way up the chain from car jockey to Auto Tech, Salesman, Sales Manager, General Manager, and finally Owner. There is no job John hasn't personally performed. These experiences have left him with a good sense of awareness of customers' needs. And his constant goal is to take care of his customers.
In 1983, John opened John Jones Auto Group, in Salem, IN, which started out with 13 employees and 25 new cars on the lot. Then he opened John Jones Auto Group, of Corydon in 1991, John Jones Automotive Outlet in 1999, and John Jones Auto Group of Scottsburg in 2001. In 2011, we expanded our Corydon Dealership to include Automatic Wash Bays, Kids Play Area, Indoor Service Lanes and Customer Workstations complete with WIFI capabilities for convenience. In 2014, we built a brand new state of the art Scottsburg dealership which includes the same customer friendly amenities. In 2015, we finished building a brand new Salem dealership. Also, in 2015 we expanded our Chrysler service department to include the same state of the art features that our other three service departments currently have. We have over 200 employees and in a typical year we have over 3800 sales.
John feels it is important to give back to the community. Each year there is a Christmas fundraising campaign which enables John and his employees to provide clothing, shoes, coats and toys for needy children in each of our Dealerships' communities. He is a major sponsor for the Relay For Life, the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society and gives generously to the Washington County Community Foundation.
In the words of John Jones, "I always treat customers the way I want to be treated. I realize that customers have a choice in which automobile dealership they purchase from; we have to be the better choice."
